Full of excitement and expectation, my daughter Mckensie and I set aside a day in March to clean out the spare bedroom in her house, and start to decorate and set it up for her first baby boy due in August. Much to our surprise we found a disgusting amount of mold growing on one of the closet’s walls and ceilings. At 6 months pregnant, she had been sick with several viruses and a nagging sinus infection which no doubt this mold had contributed to. We immediately moved her out of the house and called a mold remediation company to assess the situation. After a long process with demolition and delays due to conflicts with the insurance co, we were finally able to move forward with the renovations which ended up involving the entire house as mold was found in excess in every room in the house including the attic but with the exception of the kitchen. Of course, at that point they decided to use the funds that they had received for wedding gifts to remodel the kitchen as well, considering it was a 1989 original in need of updating.
It’s been a long 7 months but we are almost to the light at the end of the tunnel!
Our healthy baby boy (first grand child) was born in mid August and mom and dad are anxiously awaiting their move in day, after all, “There’s no place like home”, especially after a complete home renovation!
These pics are worth a thousand words. Though it was devastating to find so much mold, and absolutely overwhelming for a first time mom and dad to have to completely empty the home that they loved and move into a tiny apartment with their 2 large pups, it was actually a blessing in disguise, which at the time felt a lot more like a burden! This unfortunate discovery allowed us to reconfigure and open up this dated, choppy first floor layout and also allow the second floor primary bedroom to be connected to the only upstairs bathroom.
